Dean's List

I've made the Dean's list a time or two since being in college. Now, I'm assuming to save money, they send the letter electronically. This morning I read the letter for the first time. It's pretty short and simple, and then I stumbled across this gem:

"A notation will be placed in your University transcript, and the University’s Office of News and Information will notify your home town newspaper of this honor."

Have they been notifying the Anacortes American these past 4 years? I had no idea!

paper writing

I just finished writing my 5th paper for my senior seminar on Pope Pius XII and the Holocaust. It ended up sounding rather anti-Catholic. I swear it wasn't intentional and I don't mean to attack the Catholic institution! I just started answering the question and it led me in that direction...sorry.

But hey, I'm done writing papers for this quarter! YAY!

Driving

As I was coming home from work today, a VW van drifted from his lane into mine, hitting my car. Kind of scary. We pulled over, checked the damage and happily found there was none. We're both fine, but I think the poor old man was rather rattled. He wasn't that old- late 60s probably. We decided to pretend it didn't happen and go our separate ways. Kind of crazy.

St. Valentine

About this time last year Kurt and I had already gone out on 1 date and 1 other outing that could be construed as a date. So, one Mr. Biehl asked me to go out to lunch with him on that coming Friday, and of course I agreed. After hanging up I realized Friday was Valentine's Day. Did he know it was Valentine's Day? Was he planning our date as a Valentine's Day date? What's going on? I didn't know. Friday came, we went to lunch, had a good time, and Valentine's Day was not mentioned once.

Church

We had a lesson on charity today. I never pay better attention than when my name is being said every 30 seconds. Perhaps I should try that the next time I teach, just randomly throw out some names :) I think it would make everyone very nervous. I am such a great teacher!

Random Fact

In Scandinavian movies they use actors from different countries (Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, etc). Thus they all speak different languages. So how do directors/producers/movie people deal with this? They let each actor speak in their native tongue. Then, depending on which country you're watching the movie in, subtitles are provided for the parts not in your language. They figure it is better to have a plethora of languages than to have a great actor struggle through lines they can't pronounce correctly. Muy interesante.

Also, I insulted Kurt in Latin today (Kurt est stultus!). How fun!

Definition of "charity"

according to urbandictionary.com

1. Charity
the coolest chick you could ever meet. Beautiful, brilliant, peaceful, down to earth, and wicked sweet. also the greatest and most loyal friend you could ever have. People are totally jealous of her awesomeness and her kick-a** (sorry) personality. Many people wish they were as fly as this girl but they never will be. you may feel threatened or intimidated by charity... you should. she could take you out in a heartbeat.
person 1 : whoa check out that chick. she's almost as cool as charity.
person 2: pshh no one's as cool as charity

That's right. No one is as cool as me :)

Story time!

Here's my retelling of the true storytelling of a true story that happened to me today:

"So I walked out of Suzallo (a library on campus) today and there was this adorable dog out front. As I walked closer to it I noticed there was something stuck on the dog's lip (do dogs have lips?). I took another couple steps and realized it was a feather! The bird ate a dog!"

wait...that's not quite right.

Anyways, it was funny in the moment. Maybe you had to be there.
