SURPRISE!!!

I learned last night that I am going to be an aunt for the first time! That's right- Meg-o is prego. I literally jumped for joy. I'm going to be "Auntie Chew" for real. The cool aunt in Seattle. It's going to be great. Congratulations Megan and Joe!
(Auntie Em from the Wizard of Oz is the only famous aunt I could think of...does anyone know of any others?)

2009

2009 thus far has been a year of self-improvement. I'm working AND going to school and for the first time I've been working out at the IMA consistently. Go me!

Neither of these are my new year (or years...neither looks right) resolutions. What does that mean? That I shouldn't make new years resolutions? That sounds like the lesson I'm learning from this.

The llama(?) has the right idea.

Thank You!

First off I want to give a big THANK YOU to all of those who helped me and the FHE team plan tri-ward and to all of those who attended (especially those who helped with clean up). We put in a lot of time and effort for those activities to happen and I am truly grateful for all the help people willingly gave. However, I will miss the power of the keys- being able to get into the stake center, open the gym and library at will. It's an amazing feeling.

Apparently I can't get enough of the Stake Center and I returned there tonight to donate blood. And I didn't almost pass out (as might have happened last time). Yay for free cookies and savings lives.

Also, I was accepted to the Surrealism Exploration Seminar in Paris, France! AHHHH!

Shower Time!

Wendy = Awesome

Wendy + Chad = Awesome

therefore:

Wendy + friends + wedding night candy grams + toilet paper dress + Chad answering questions = Awesome

It was an entertaining bridal shower for one of my favorite couples! Congratulations Wendy and Chad (check out the song title)! Two weeks!

AH!

Warning: I'm about to complain. Is that what you're supposed to do on a blog?

I need a projector for tri-ward FHE on Monday.
So I go to the basement in Kane- I've heard from several different people that Kane is the place to go for such things.

What I hadn't heard was that you have to fill out a form online 1 full business day before you can rent a projector. So they wouldn't let me.
And right as I was getting all panic-y trying to figure out where I would get a projector she adds that the health sciences branch does same day rentals.

And then Josh informed me that the institute has a projector. So maybe I can use that one? I'll know when Jacob calls me back...

So let's all hope that I can get my hands on a projector. And the movie Johnny Lingo.
(I almost wrote: "So let's all hope I can get my hands on a projector. And Johnny Lingo." And then I read it and changed the wording.)

Addicted

A recent conversation with myself:

I should watch less TV. I have too many shows. Cut back to your favorites: Heroes and Lost. Oh, but what about Thursday nights when we all watch Grey's and Private Practice? That's fun! ah! And I'm not going to stop watching the Office and 30 Rock! They're only 20 min online so they don't take up that much time. Oh...and Ugly Betty! That's my online show! It's a Friday tradition. 24? 24 is dead to me after last season. Desperate Housewives? I definitely don't need to watch that one. Ok...so not too great. But two is better than none, right? Well, it's really only one because you haven't started watching 24. hmm....AH! Don't start watching American Idol and Biggest Loser! You don't need more shows to watch! Dang.

So there's a little insight into me...hopefully you're not too disturbed.

oh my

I'm sitting here in MGH computer lab and a girl sitting to my right is picking her nose but trying to hide that she's doing so.  And now I'm off to class.

Skylights

I start work tomorrow! Yay! More money! and less sleep...sad.

I had to go in today and talk to HR and then over to parking so I can drive to work tomorrow.

I love the parking department. It's in the middle of a building = no windows. So there are fake sky thing-a-ma-bobs covering the lights with random things on them like dogs, flags, flowers- things that wouldn't usually be seen when staring up at a blue, slightly cloudy sky. Then there's the tacky clock and random pictures on the walls. It's great.

P.S. Thank you for the job Jeanette!

Always Sunday In a Rich Man's World

The title of this post is some mis-quoted lyrics to an ABBA song. My sister mis-heard these lyrics and was a bit horrified by them. Why? It's always Sunday in a rich man's world? If you're rich you have to go to church every day? What? She decided to never be rich.

Anyways, today (Sunday) was pretty fantastic consisting of an awesome sacrament meeting, two homemade meals, hanging out with friends, and a live fireside with Julie B. Beck- General Relief Society President. I would happily be rich and have every day be Sunday.

I Hate Squirrels

Definition according to dictionary.com:

Squirrel: Any of various arboreal rodents of the genus Sciurus and related genera of the family Sciuridae, having a long flexible bushy tail

Definition according to me:

Squirrel: Small, noisy, disgusting creatures that sit on the roof above your head and screech all night long so you can't sleep and then jump out at you from garbage cans.

What I learned this week:

  • Bimbisara was killed by his son Ajatashatru 8 years before Buddha died.
  • There was a Battle of Hattin- and it was important.
  • Princess Cottonwood should have listened to Leap the Elk.

  • There is such a thing as too much Thai food.
  • If you don't have class on Friday, it does not mean you will use your extra time to be productive. Surprise surprise.

(10 points if you know what the above picture represents)

The Weekend

Lo siento! Sorry for the lack of posts as of late.
This weekend I ate Indian food, showed off my weird talents, made a couch out of cake (well, maybe I just helped Esther a bit), sang karaoke, ate some delicious Molly Moon's, had two slumber parties, was picked up (literally) all to celebrate Sarah Hammond's 21st Birthday!!!

Couch

Cake!

Happy Birthday Sarah!

Jealous?

Shock-headed Peter doesn't cut his nails or brush his hair.

Augusts refused to eat his soup and died.

Fred was mean so a dog bit him and then ate his food.

Harriet played with matches and was burned to a pile of ash.

So what do we learn?

Be clean! Eat! Be Nice! Don't play with matches!

Scandinavian Children's Literature (SCAND 335) is going to be awesome.

(the pictures are actual illustrations from the book via google image search. If you care to read some more moralistic tales then pick up a copy of "Shock-headed Peter" by Heinrich Hoffmann)

Saladin and India

What do these three pictures have in common?

They represent the three classes I'm taking this quarter!

HIST 388: Junior Seminar on Saladin-The textbook for this class is crap. I'm sure the information is good, but it is not written well and was ineptly edited. There are too many commas and and mistakes like this this are not uncommon. But, to the author's credit, English is not his first language.

HSTAS 401: History of Early India- speak up prof! I can barely hear you from the third row!

Let's hope my third and final class tomorrow leaves me with a better impression than the first two. I'm actually excited for it- Scandinavian Children's Literature (SCAND 335)- I get to read kids books! Yes please! (thank you Chris McBeth for suggesting it)

Inappropriate

I went to Gap today and bought a pair of shoes. They were on sale for $12 but the pair in my size had the wrong price tag on it. When I got up to check-out the cashier asked me to go grab a different pair with the correct price so I could get the full discount. I did so and as I was walking back a man set his stuff down where I was being helped. The lady said "Oh, I'm sorry! But I'm actually helping her right now, I'll be with you in a moment." He glared and then started to move over to the next check-out, but a different customer beat him there. Apparently this was too much for the man-
"Two no's? Great customer service. I'm not buying anything (then he threw down the clothes out of his arms). I'm never coming back here b*!#$" directed at the saleswoman helping me. She turned bright red. I said, "I am so sorry. That was completely inappropriate and unnecessary."
That poor girl! She was probably my age or younger and she definitely didn't do anything wrong. Why are there people who think it's ok to behave in such a way? Seriously. There are better ways to handle situations...or he just could have waited 1 minute and bought his clothes instead of calling names and creating a bad situation.
So again I apologize to you Gap Employee. That guy was ridiculous! You did nothing wrong and he behaved completely inappropriately.

Adventures of '09

A few days before the new year, Sarah, Esther, and I spent a couple hours in Ikea. Here was the result:

Then I did some dancing on New Year's Eve, but the true highlight of the evening was the Pillow Pit:
-----
I look a bit ridiculous in this picture, but it's a nice action shot...of Sarah screaming.

It was a deep pit

And in true Charity style I exited with grace.
I can think of no better way to bring in '09 than with a good ol' fashioned night of jumping into a pit of pillows.
