Confession

This evening I got distracted by a game of Scrabble...that I was playing against myself.  I spent about an hour in a 2 player Charity vs. Charity stand off.  And who one?  Left or Right?  I swear this didn't happen on purpose...I tied!  With myself!  317 to 317.  Two pretty good games if I don't say so myself.  Anyways, I hope you had a more productive evening :)

At least I didn't accept a marriage proposal via scrabble pieces.

Things on the bookshelf

That is, non-book items on the bookshelves.

The institute had a ping pong competition and I entered the beginners bracket...and I won!  So I have a ping pong trophy- perhaps one of the nerdiest things I own :)

My senior year of high school I went to a UW volleyball game with a few members of my high school team.  During "half time" they threw mini volleyballs into the crowd and I caught one!  I totally upset the 10 year old girl behind me.  After the game we got the setter to sign it by coercing someone at the front of the line to get it signed for us.  No waiting in line for us!

This is a picture of me and Kurt at Rosario Beach in Anacortes, but I LOVE the picture of young Kurt.  One Biehl family dinner while we were dating, Aunt Kathy gave me this picture. She said, "I just came across it and thought you'd like to have it."  Absolutely!  Look how cute he is!

Kurt's mission plaque!  Gooooo Switzerland!  We plan to go back someday.

This is my step dad's baseball glove from his younger years!  Can you imagine playing with that glove?  Also, that's my alumni mug the people at work gave me :)

One Monday in Anacortes I saw this horse in Lili's apartment.  I said "hey- did you get a new horse?".  Lili, "No...I got it for Ani, but she said it was ugly.  I don't want it.  Do you think Kurt would like it?".  Me, "Absolutely!"  And that's how we inherited the horse.

Funny NPR

Since being married I've started listening to National Public Radio KUOW 94.9 (how grown up of me!).  I don't know if it's because Kurt listens to it or because I now drive to work and I've always preferred listening to books on tape/CD/MP3 than music so public radio seemed like a nice alternative.  Anyways, I love it when their "news" stories are accidentally funny.  For instance:

A piece was done a while back on the upcoming Academy Awards: "One movie that will not be receiving many Oscars is Salt.  Mainly because it wasn't nominated".  Well....duh!

Just last week on All Things Considered a small piece was done on a golfer.  He recently received the worst score (16...and high scores are bad in golf!) on a par 4 hole ever in pro golf history.  The piece ended with, "but to his credit, the worst expletive to escape his mouth was 'oh come on!'".  Way to look on the bright side NPR!

Toast!

I read this, from The Velveteen Rabbit, at my mom's wedding last Saturday April 9:

"What is REAL?" asked the Rabbit one day. "Does it mean having things that buzz inside you and a stick-out handle?"
"Real isn't how you are made," said the Skin Horse. "It's a thing that happens to you. When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but REALLY loves you, then you become Real."
"Does it hurt?" asked the Rabbit.
"Sometimes," said the Skin Horse, for he was always truthful. "When you are Real you don't mind being hurt."
"Does it happen all at once, like being wound up," he asked, "or bit by bit?"
"It doesn't happen all at once," said the Skin Horse. "You become. It takes a long time. That's why it doesn't happen often to people who break easily, or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don't matter at all, because once you are Real you can't be ugly, except to people who don't understand."
"I suppose you are real?" said the Rabbit. And then he wished he had not said it, for he thought the Skin Horse might be sensitive.
But the Skin Horse only smiled.

Later at the reception toasts were made.  In mine I told Mom and Clarence that they're both getting a little shabby (you know, referencing my reading!)...but it's because they're well loved!  And they are!

The wedding went great- singing, dancing, food, cake (apparently cake is different than food!), and a wonderful couple!  All ingredients for a great wedding!  Congratulations!

howmanyofme.com

I have no idea how accurate it is, but according to this website there is "1 or fewer Charity Biehls in the United States".  I think there's only half a Charity Biehl out there.  A Char Bie.

Weather

While in Target yesterday it started snowing.  A lot.  As we're paying for our purchases the cashier says, "Have you looked outside?  It's a powdered donut out there!".  I should start using that phrase.

In other news- Kurt and I are having our first house guests since being married! My sister Ashley and her husband get in late(ish) tonight and are staying at our place before we all go up North tomorrow.  How exciting!  I should get cleaning...

Conversations with a sleeping wife

Me (while asleep): "Uuuummmmmmmmmm.....the pictures...of the apples coming out of their cores".
Kurt: "What about them?"
Me: "I need them"
Kurt: "What?"
Me: "That's the way they are!"

End of conversation.  It was a fun morning for Kurt!

P.S. I love apples.

Family Weekend

Kurt and I saw lots of family this weekend- both from his side and mine!  And what did we learn from this?  We have the greatest nieces and nephews in the world.  Actually, we already knew that.

While watching Tangled with Sofia and Co. she said "You're not wearing socks!" "Nope, how silly of me!".  A bit later she goes into her room and comes out in her pajamas- "Look!  I'm not wearing socks!".  I'm so glad she likes me :)

Charlotte, is 20 months old, and loves to dance!  It's the cutest thing ever.  Anyways, when they stopped by our apartment she saw our computer and ran right up to it.  I put her in the chair and let her click around and press the keyboard.  Lili walked in, saw Charlotte at the computer, and asked "Ohhhh, is she really smart?"

Ammon was in a class play a couple weeks ago- 12th Night by William Shakespeare.  His 3rd grade class put on an edited (for time) version in olden time talk!  Ammon played Sir Toby Belch and did an amazing job.  I was so proud and impressed!

I love being an aunt!  I get to have fun with the kiddos and send them to their parents if anything goes wrong :)  I have some amazing nieces and nephews!
